AMBULANCE

Anchorage has two emergency ambulances to respond to all types of emergencies.  A specially equipped truck and trained personnel assist in land and water rescues.  When you need emergency medical assistance, dial 911 and specify "Anchorage EMS" to assure the dispatch of an Anchorage ambulance.

HOUSE SURVEILLANCE

The Anchorage Police Department will provide house surveillance service for your home while you are on vacation.  The cost is $1.00 per day.  Contact the Anchorage Police Station at 244-0562 for details.

BURGLAR ALARMS

Many homes in Anchorage are equipped with burglar alarms - either audible or silent alarms which run directly to the Anchorage Police Station.  Alarms directly wired to the Anchorage Police Station is the preferred method of Chief Winders.  He says, response time is much quicker.  Regardless of the monitoring agency, all alarms must be registered with the Anchorage Police Department.  A $25.00 fee is charged for false alarm runs on those alarms not paying a quarterly or annual fee.  The annual fee is $60.00 or $15.00 quarterly.

R.U.O.K.

The Anchorage Police Department provides a free daily checkup call for older Anchorage residents with its computer run "Are you OK?" system.  Call the Anchorage Police Department at 244-0562 for more information.

CAR STICKERS

Anchorage car stickers are available at the Anchorage Police Station at a cost of $2.00 each.  The stickers are good for two (2) years.  The stickers provide identification of all cars belonging to Anchorage residents, and help police identify stolen and abandoned cars.  New stickers are available in November of every even numbered year.

TREES

In 1991, the Anchorage City Council adopted an ordinance relating to the preservation of trees.  When any tree over three (3) inches in caliper is to be cut or removed, a trench is to be dug twelve feet or more in length regardless of the depth, or any new construction, remodeling, or demolition is undertaken, a permit must be obtained from the City Forester.  The forestry department also works closely with all utility companies to see that trees are not damaged by pruning or trenching.

The City also has its own nursery which provides replacement trees for planting along rights-of-way where trees have been removed due to disease, damage, or demise.  The City holds a free tree distribution at least once a year.  Watch the "Anchor Age" for more information.
